ANGER ON MY MIND

Anger is a Secondary Emotion

Posted on: June 16, 2007

Why anger is considered a secondary emotion. Here are two main reasons

  • It is 100% of the time driven by some set of primary emotions. For example a person engaging in road rage may do so be cause at the core they feel disrespected by other drivers
  • Anger is a often a poor attempt to satisfy unmet needs

An anger management program should teach this concept as part or their curriculum. It is important to note that the globally acclaimed Anderson and Anderson Anger management model has this concept at its core. This model addresses not only anger management but stress management, communication skill and emotional intelligence.
