ANGER ON MY MIND

Four Styles of Communcation

Posted on: June 18, 2007

  • Passive-This involves never stating needs and making others think that you are okay with something that you are not. People who are passive communicators have a hard time saying no.
  • Passive-aggressive-This involves a feeble attempt to assert oneself but often comes out in sarcasm. A good example of this would be the Gieco cavemen in the Gieco ads.
  • Aggressive-this involves seeking to get your needs met by disregarding the rights and feelings of others often the individual is loud , shows physical gestures of aggressiveness and may invade the physical space of the person to which the aggression is directed.
  • Assertive– this is the most desired form of communication. the assertive communicator states their needs but is also respectful of the boundaries and rights of others.

What kind of communicator are you?
